Zero Routine Flaring by 2030

The Initiative

The World Bank (http://www.worldbank.org/) introduce the “Zero Routine Flaring by 2030” initiative (the Initiative) that brings together governments, oil companies, and development institutions who recognize that the flaring situation today is unsustainable from a resource management and environmental perspective, and who agree to cooperate to eliminate routine flaring no later than 2030.

From https://www.worldbank.org/en/programs/zero-routine-flaring-by-2030:
"During oil production, associated gas is produced from the reservoir together with the oil. Much of this gas is utilized or conserved because governments and oil companies have made substantial investments to capture it; nevertheless, some of it is flared because of technical, regulatory, or economic constraints. As a result, thousands of gas flares at oil production sites around the globe burn approximately 140 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, causing more than 300 million tons of CO2 to be emitted to the atmosphere.

Flaring of gas contributes to climate change and impacts the environment through emission of CO2, black carbon and other pollutants. It also wastes a valuable energy resource that could be used to advance the sustainable development of producing countries. For example, if this amount of gas were used for power generation, it could provide about 750 billion kWh of electricity, or more than the African continent’s current annual electricity consumption. While associated gas cannot always be used to produce power, it can often be utilized in a number of other productive ways or conserved (re-injected into an underground formation)."

How LifeTime Ignition contributes

SAFETY:
Emergency flaring of natural gas is a safety critical action.
If the gas is released to atmosphere unignited the gas poses a risk of unintentionally igniting in safe area - creating a potential catastrophically scenario with risk of personnel hazard.

ENVIRONMENTAL:
Unignited  Natural Gas has a much higher environmental impact than Flared Natural Gas.
In cases where unignited gas is released to atmosphere- methane, carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, sulfur compounds and gas impurities are released. When the gas is burned the gas oxidises to carbon dioxide, which has a global warming potential 21 times lower than methane.
Natural gas that contains hydrogen sulfide (i.e., sour gas) is also highly toxic, and should be flared to convert the gas into less toxic compounds.

LIFETIME IGNITIONS CONTRIBUTION:
A LifeTime Ignition Pyrotechnical Ignition System is a highly reliable ignition system (the LP 2000 type of Pyrotechnical Ignition System have a rating of 99.8% reliability) that will ensure that the flare will ignite "on demand" regardless of weather conditions.

The LP 2000 Pellet releases thousands of zirconium sparks in a large mist - covering the flare tip and guaranteeing ignition every time.
The low weight of the sparks allows them to follow the gas and wind direction - ensuring that the gas will ignite under any circumstances.

With a Pyrotechnical Ignition System from LifeTime Ignition, you can safely extinguish flare - assured that when needed the Ignition System will re-ignite it again.
